- tbh disliking pink or dresses or “feminine”...

kirbbian:

tbh disliking pink or dresses or “feminine” activities/aesthetics is only internalized misogyny if someone thinks that they’re smarter and “not like other girls” for not liking those things, and looks down on other girls for liking them. but if you dislike them because you’ve had them forced on you for being a girl and you’ve had your girlhood/womanhood equated to them, you have every right to be uncomfortable with them and their association with your gender, and its understandable to want to avoid them.

i often see women saying “i used to dislike pink but then i got over my internalized misogyny!” and no that wasn’t necessarily internalized misogyny, that was more likely an understandable defensive reaction to misogynistic associations that were being placed on you. compulsory femininity is genuinely hurtful and its not misogyny to push against that. and liking pink now doesn’t mean you’re accepting those misogynistic associations either, it just means its a pretty color and doesn’t have to have anything to do with gender, and you’ve managed to separate the things you genuinely enjoy from the expectations society has for your gender
